Kings Harbor offers a new and enhanced rehabilitation program, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, helping residents reach their potential.
Kings Harbor Therapists Dedicated to Clinical Excellence
The goal of Kings Harbor's rehabilitation staff is to help residents be as independent as possible in the activities of daily living. Our professional staff assesses the restorative therapy needs of our residents in order to maximize independence with daily activities -- physical, occupational, speech -- our team of experienced rehabilitation professionals create an individual and comprehensive program of rehabilitation. Our spacious and attractive rehabilitation department includes state-of-the-art equipment.
Full-Time, Licensed Therapists

- Evaluate residents upon admission
- Establish individual treatment programs
- Identify, establish and maintain each resident's highest functional level

Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech & Language Pathology

The Renaissance Program offers therapeutic Alzheimer's/Dementia care.
Its goals include:

Kings Harbor Multicare Center's Specialized Alzheimer's/Dementia Program meets the physical, mental and psychosocial needs of dementia and Alzheimer's patients in a caring, dignified environment.
Our structured therapeutic programming includes:
- A caring staff with special training to recognize and develop each resident's potential to maximize his or her independence in dressing, bathing, eating and other daily living activities.
- Activities that have personal and cultural relevance to our residents and which are rewarding, pleasurable and success-oriented.
- Ongoing evaluation of each resident's progress in order to maintain the highest level of his or her comfort and individuality.
A Team Approach: The Cornerstone of Quality for Dementia and Alzheimer's Care
Our interdisciplinary approach is enhanced by a full tange of experienced professionals:
- A full-time Program Coordinator dedicated to the Renaissance Program
- Specially trained Activity Leaders and Programming Aides
The Alzheimer's/Dementia Program is supported with the active involvement of nursing, dietary, social services and housekeeping staff. Psychological and psychiatric interventions are available to assist in reducing disordered behavior and resident distress related to dementia.
Kings Harbor Multicare Center is also the site of a bimonthly caregiver support group in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association, New York City Chapter. This group is free and open to the public.

Kings Harbor offers residents Continuous Abdominal Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) on the unit. The CAPD is performed by specially trained, licensed nurses. The procedure is performed in the privacy and comfort of your own room.
Our Wound Healing Program is designed to relieve pressure and promote healing.
Our interdisciplinary wound care team treats all wounds, including:
- Pressure sores (decubitus ulcers)
- Peripheral Vascular Ulcers
- Diabetic ulcers
- Burns
- Surgical Incisions
We have developed a formal Wound Healing Program with an innovative and extensive protocol. The basis for this clinical program is Prevention -- as we feel it is our responsibility to do all in our power to prevent skin breakdown. Our mission is to promote healing and prevent further skin breakdown. Our wound care program has been nationally recognized and presented to the Joint Commission, American Medical Directors Association and Long Term Care Magazine.
We have a formal Wound Rounds Team -- a group of professionals whose fields of expertise all contribute to enhancing wound care. Under the guidance of our Medical Director and a specially trained nurse, these professionals include physicians assistants, rehabilitation therapists, dietitians, and nursing staff. The Wound Rounds Team provides initial risk assessment for skin breakdown potential, performs weekly rounds to the residents and staff work together to help reduce the risk of infection, promote healing and enhance the comfort and dignity of our residents.
Professional expertise and compassion is supported with the most advanced state of the art products on the market specially designed to relieve pressure, promote healing and prevent skin breakdown.

Hydrotherapy: whirlpools on unit and in the therapy department
Personal Hygiene: High-tech bathing systems and lifting equipment
Working to provide comfort and relief
Kings Harbor Multicare Center has joined forces with certified Hospice Care programs to create a comprehensive Pain Management/Hospice Care program.
The Hospice Care team of professionals will collaborate with the Kings Harbor staff and physicians to provide comfort and relief to residents with advanced illness. Our team includes:
- Nurses
- Physicians
- Social Workers
- Pastoral Care Counselors
- Bereavement Counselors
- Volunteers
- Allied Professionals and Paraprofessionals
In addition to enhancing a resident's comfort, the Pain Management/Hospice Care program also helps avoid unnecessary hospitalization and keeps the patient/physcian relationship intact -- the resident's physician is welcomed as a member of the Hospice team.
Around-the-Clock Care
Services are provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include:
- Assessment of the resident's and family's needs
- Consultation with the resident's physician and nursing staff to ensure effective symptom and pain control
- Implementation of a plan of care involving all disciplines, the resident and the family
- Spiritual care
- Extended counseling for the family
- One-on-one round-the-clock care when required provided by hospice
Eligibility Requirements
Residents of any age with advanced stages of illness are eligible for Pain Management/Hospice Care. Eligible residents are those who:
- Have an advanced illness with a limited life expectancy
- Seek palliative care (non-invasive, supportive care) rather than curative care
- Have a physician who agrees to Pain Management/Hospice Care
- Family/Resident agreement
